History of the house
Maison Gruettes was built in 1890 by a Parisian architect. Over the last 8 years it has been renovated to an outstanding standard with devoted and dedicated time, finance and passion.
The house is an elegant French period property both inside and out and sits in the heart of rural France. Situated on the borders of Raye-sur-Authie this impressive building is in a quiet side road with views over Fondeval and its farming community. You can also enjoy the simplicity of the local village community with daily fresh bread deliveries from the ‘Pain Van'.
Maison Gruettes is overlooked by the site where the V1 [Doodle Bug] flying bombs were launched from in World War II. Constructed in the side of a disused chalk quarry, the most prominent feature of the complex is an immense concrete dome. It may come as no surprise that the house was occupied by the Germans for a period during the Second World War.
