The Area

Maison Gruettes is walking distance to the River Authie where there are ample picnic benches next to the flowing waters.

Plentiful in activity and history and close to both World War I and World War II sites; 2016 sees the 100th Anniversary of Battle of the Somme. In World War I the village was used for rest and relaxation for the horses on the front line.

The Pas-de-Calais boasts designated cities of art and history such as a Gothic cathedral and two magnificent squares as well as areas for golfing and fishing. There are a plethora of Brocantes in this region of France, each with their own individual style and selection promising a memorable day out and an opportunity to find the unique hidden French treasure "you never knew you needed". Pas-de-Calais also has one of the largest public aquariums in Europe located on the seafront which is open every day all year round. It is also within close proximity to the Euro 2016 football matches; for art lovers Paris is only 2 hours away, which is home to the Musee du Louvre. Not too far along the coast from Le Touquet there is a great theme park called Parc Bagatelle.

The main supermarkets are Carrefour at Cite Europe, Auchan outside Boulogne-sur-mer and Eleclerc at Outreau. All have a very wide range of products, fresh local produce and inexpensive good quality wine.

Weather

Thanks to the warm waters of the North Atlantic drift, Nord-Pas de Calais has a generally pleasant all year round climate. Spring arrives early and by the middle of March the temperature generally starts to pick up. Summer months range from June to September and can be exceptionally warm.
